Questions

Does it upload my photos anywhere?

No. KeepFaces finds and recognizes faces on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded and you don't need an account. The only time anything goes online is if you choose to connect a cloud AI (OpenAI or Claude) later, and even then only small thumbnails and your search text are sent. Prefer a local model and nothing leaves your computer at all.

Will it work with my NAS and external drives?

Yes. Add folders on your computer, USB drives and NAS (network drives) from Synology, QNAP and others. If a drive is unplugged or the NAS is asleep, you can still browse your library and nothing is marked as missing. KeepFaces never stores your NAS password.

Does it handle iPhone photos (HEIC)?

Yes. KeepFaces reads HEIC and HEIF photos (iPhone photo formats), plus JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF and RAW files (unprocessed camera files) from most cameras (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, ORF, RW2 and RAF).

Do my tags work in other apps?

Yes, whenever you want them to. Click "Sync tags to files" and KeepFaces writes XMP face tags and keywords (the standard photo-tag format): inside JPEGs, and as sidecar files next to RAW and HEIC photos. It also reads face tags you already made in Lightroom, digiKam or Windows Photos.

Which AI can I use?

Face recognition is built in and doesn't need any AI service. Smart search and scene tags are coming soon: use OpenAI or Claude with your own key, or a local model that runs on your computer and never goes online. AI is always optional.

Is it really a one-time payment?

Yes. You pay $30 once and get a lifetime license with every future update included. There's no subscription and no trial: you buy it, you own it.
